Thatta Power (Private) Limited (TPPL) was incorporated in November 2010 as a private
limited company with an aim of setting up a Captive Power Plant, comprising of gas
engines imported from GE Jenbacher GMBH & Co., Austria, under the Policy for New Captive
Power Plant (N-CPP) at Thatta, Sindh, Pakistan to meet the power requirements of its
parent company, Thatta Cement Company Limited. It has been granted a generation license
from NEPRA for its natural gas based thermal generation facility for the total installed
capacity of 45.984 MW Gross ISO. The capacity will be setup in two phases. In the first
phase, the company has successfully installed capacity of 23.1 MW and has achieved its
CoD on December 12, 2012. TPPL has also entered into agreement with the Hyderabad
Electric Supply Company Limited (HESCO) for selling power, surplus to the requirements
of its parent company.
The Waste Heat Recovery project (WHRP) for Power Generation has been completed in 2019,
which comprises nine boilers, a steam turbine and a generator. This (WHRP) utilize waste
heat to produce super heated steam which used for power generation. After the completion
of Waste Heat Recovery Project the gross generation capacity of the Company has
increased to 27.1 MW.
Thatta Power (Private) Limited is located at Thatta, Sindh Pakistan in the vicinity of Thatta Cement Company Limited (TCCL) to avoid the efficiency losses and the cost of installation of power transmission line for TCCL. The plant is ideally located from the stand point of availability of main gas trunk line from the nearby gas field.
